Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia R. Miller co-founded Vera Bradley in 1982. While on vacation, the two friends observed a lack of feminine luggage available for women and then decided to start their own business. The original paisley cotton handbags were so successful that they quickly branched out into designing more colorful handbags, luggage and accessories.
